Dayang Oct07

I love this photo best of all the hundreds of photos I took. I think thats my dive master Marcus.

Pulau Dayang is a small island located on the east coast of the Malaya Peninsula. It takes about 4 hours by boat to get there from the old port of Mercing.

Pure White, soft sandy beaches. Beautiful blue waters.

Diving season is from April - September.

(But due to global warming or whatever - the monsoon season is delayed this year- allowing us to dive this month)

I was hoping to bump into a Whale Shark - as they have been reported to have been sighted in this area. But unfortunately, no.

This is the first time I have ever dived with a camera- so the results are so - so. I had problem keeping the cam steady due to the current. And I didn't know how to adjust the ISO and other details. Any constructive criticism would be welcomed. My technique was point and shoot whatever looked good. :)

The camera I used was the Fuji FD F31 with the Fuji underwater case. No strobes or other attachments used. The F31 is suppose to be one of the best scuba diving cameras. You of course need to get the underwater case - the Fuji WP=FXF30.
If you are thinking of buying the F31 - better do so quickly, Fuji has stopped making them - and the successors (F50) aren't as good.

Go with a good dive operator (PADI cert of course) with an excellent track record. If you are doing it here in Singapore- I'd go with Blue Reef Scuba. They are safety first. I felt very safe with them.

Why not NAUI? :p

wow.... must be super exciting to view sea creatures in their own habitat. i love the first few shots of the corals and fish. unfortunately i am afraid of water. so will never scuba dive :(

Geez. This cam is good. Produce quite nice colour pics even though you didn't use any strobes.

Actually NAUI is alright as well. My basic was with PADI and advance with NAUI. Important thing is the operator i guess. But i was told PADI in this part of the world is more popular, not too sure how true it is...

Hey there Ann! Thanks for the compliment! It was my first attempt at scuba photography- hope to improve.

Yes, you're fortunate that you have the F31 - its reputed to be one of the best diving camera compacts. Its excellent sensitivity to light is superb for scuba diving photography. Best to get the underwater case (Fuji WP-FXF30) soon - as stocks are running out. Fuji has stopped making the F31 and its accessories. I managed to get the uw case here in Singapore- S$239 - but had to go all the way to Tampines to buy it. lol. You should also buy the spare accessories kit too - which includes the rubber O-rings and silicon gel.

So you're interested in a diving trip in December - here or in Aus? What about a dive off the Burma coast on a liveaboard (the WhiteManta)? Check out the details in my Multiply Events Calender. Or you could go to Ko Similan, Thailand, which has one of the best diving spots in the region.

One of my friends told me not to use flash next time - as the F31 is suppose to be very sensitive to light.

Thanks. Please take a look at my other scuba diving photos. There are some good shots taken at the Maldives.
